Everyone needs more traffic. Well the only way to really get it is to tell the world you are alive and active. This is where pinging comes in. It notifies the search engines and whoever else is interested that you just made a new post. So check out a few of the services like King Ping or Pingomatic and your blog will be swarming with visitors.
By learning basic css you can do wonders with WordPress templates. There are so many great templates on the internet that it is easy to put up a great WordPress site. I like to change them just a little to make them a little unique. That is where css comes in. Just change a few settings like a background color or maybe a sidebar column color and the site will look a little different then your competition. I did that on this site. Just remember to be fair to the original designer and keep their tag in the footer. They did all the hard work and they should get some of the credit.

I have found that a good way to keep visitors coming back is to also provide something for them to do. Polls are just the ticket. I don’t always upgrade my WordPress installation to the most current version right away. If it is working well why should I mess with it? Usually I upgrade if there is a major security flaw found. Otherwise I leave it be. The main reason is that I use a lot of plugins and sometimes when upgrading to a newer version, you will have trouble with some of the plugins which can be a major headache. I have found a few plugins take awhile before a new version that is compatible comes out. This sometimes can be disaster. So, I will install the most recent version of WordPress on a new site and I keep my old sites as is.
